Love blogs but hate writing them? Here are our tips

Blogs are the cornerstone of any good social media platform. They hook people in and are full of information and discussion about the latest trends. But what makes a good blog and how easy are they to write? How do you know if you’ve written a good blog or a bad one? Read on and we’lltell you!

Make them conversational

The best blogs are those that make you feel like you are having a chat – relaxed, friendly and easy to digest. Before you start, think about who your target audience is and what they want to gain from reading your blog. Don’t make the blog too technical either. Keep it simple and cut through the jargon! Don’t forget to use links and signposts to your products, but don’t overdo it or it will come across like a giant advert. Not good.

Less is more

Blogs are meant to be a bite-sized chunk of text, so keep yours concise and don’t go on and on. If it becomes hard work to read to the end, you’ve gone wrong. You want to keep it short and sweet and always eave the reader wanting more. That way, they’ll probably read some of your other content.

Break up to make up

Make your blog easy on the eye. Break up the text into short paragraphs and use catchy headlines to keep the reader interested. Also use bullet points and images to make it more interesting and eye-catching. Remember, most people read blogs on the go which means a smartphone. Test out your blog to see how the formatting works on your own device. Make it super-easy to read and you’ll have them eating out of your hand.

Give it some structure

Sounds obvious but so many blogs are published without giving this a second thought, yet it is so important. Take the reader on a journey, however short, and have a clear intro, discussion and conclusion. But don’t use those headings obviously or it will be quite boring!

Optimise to maximise

If you’ve gone to the trouble of writing a fantastic blog, you need to make sure it is SEO ready. SEO stands for ‘Search Engine Optimisation’ and means it will appear higher in web search results. Fairly crucial if you actually want people to find it and read it. Ask usall about it.
